Dental implants have quickly become the choice of treatment for tooth replacement in adults. They can be used to replace as few as one missing tooth, or several at a time (such as anchoring a full mouth denture.) But there are a few things that a lot of people don’t know about implants.
Implants encourage new bone growth within the jaw.
In order to place an implant into the jaw, healthy bone levels must be present. The material that is used for the artificial implant root is made of titanium, which is also used for joint replacements throughout the rest of the body. Titanium is so biocompatible with the body, that it encourages new bone formation to occur around the new dental implant root. This allows new bone formation to fuse with the root and secure it into place.
Dental implants can last a lifetime.
A healthy implant is stronger than natural teeth. The titanium fused with bone means that the implant can support much more weight and force than a natural tooth. A full mouth denture of 14 teeth (per arch) can be supported on as few as 4 implant roots!
They’re just like having real teeth.
There’s no other dental treatment that’s quite like the dental implant In fact, implants are the most realistic tooth replacement option available in all of modern dentistry. Patients are able to brush and floss them just like natural teeth, and they are easier to care for than other types of tooth replacement treatments like bridges or partial dentures.
