4 Ways to Get a Straighter Smile

Posted in Braces

Would you like to straighten out your teeth? Even if you’re no longer a teenager, it’s not too late to make a big change. You’ve also got plenty of ways to reach your smile goals. Here are four options to talk about with your dentist.

  1. Classic Braces

They’re not just for kids! You can’t go wrong with traditional brackets and wires. You can even get them adapted for short-term use or designed with colors to blend in with your smile.

  1. Invisible Alignment Trays

Invisalign and ClearCorrect are two examples of removable clear trays that correct tooth alignment issues. You can take these trays out for meals and sports activities, but they should be worn for at least 20 hours a day to experience the benefit.

  1. Inman Aligners

Some dentists are certified to provide a rapid-action method for correcting minor positioning concerns in the alignment of front teeth. Inman aligners use specialized springs to put pressure on the front teeth. As long as your case isn’t too complicated, you could see a big difference in only three months.

  1. Dental Veneers

You can even “cheat” on straightening your smile – you might not have to move your teeth at all. Dental veneers are an instant way to make your teeth look uniformly aligned.  Some people even refer to them as “instant braces.” A veneer is usually made of porcelain and fits over the front of an upper front tooth where it can:

  • Close up gaps between your teeth
  • Improve the shape of a tooth
  • Make a twisted tooth look straight

To find the teeth-straightening method that’s best for you, consult with your dentist or local orthodontist.

Do Clear Braces Really Work?

Posted in Braces

If you’ve wanted to straighten your teeth, you’ve probably looked into all of your options – including clear braces. But do clear braces really work? Can they give you the same straight smile that you get with conventional braces? Absolutely!

Clear braces can use removable aligners or even “invisible” appliances that aren’t noticeable on the teeth. With options like this, your orthodontic provider can help you correct the position of teeth that are crowded, crooked, gapped and misaligned. Most patients enjoy shorter treatments with their clear braces because of how efficiently they work. There is less pressure, more comfort, and the freedom to enjoy an aesthetic option that really straightens teeth. With options like removable aligners, you have more flexibility than conventional treatments.

Some patients choose clear braces simply to improve the way their front teeth look, rather than their entire bite. These treatments can be completed in as quickly as 6 months in certain cases. The type of tooth movement needed will impact the length of treatment. Alignment style braces also require fewer appointments.

Adults find clear braces highly convenient, as they allow them to enjoy healthier, straighter teeth without other people ever realizing that they are undergoing orthodontic therapy. Clear braces are perfect for teenagers and adults of all ages.

Are you ready to enjoy the benefits of clear braces and the confidence that a straighter smile can give you? Make an informed choice about having straighter teeth; call your clear braces provider to schedule an orthodontic evaluation today. Your dentist will carefully assess your bite, take any necessary x-rays and review all of your options with you. You won’t regret learning more, but you will regret not asking at all!

Types of Clear Adult Braces

Posted in Braces

Adult orthodontics helps people enjoy healthier, straighter smiles regardless of how mature someone may be. It’s not uncommon to hear of adults in their 70s or 80s having braces. But adults are also concerned about a major factor surrounding orthodontic treatment: their appearance. Are clear braces really an option, and if they are, how do they work?

Clear Brackets and Wires

Similar to regular braces in design, clear braces have tooth-colored or clear ceramic brackets and appliances that blend in with your tooth. However, they still offer the precise detail and benefits of conventional braces (just without the metal!) These brackets are also smaller than conventional orthodontics and do not require colorful bands or wire ligatures in the process.

From across the room, most people can’t even tell if there is anything on your teeth.

Clear Alignment Trays

Alignment tray orthodontics feature completely clear plastic aligners that snap right over your teeth. They are completely removable for easy oral hygiene or meals, also making them easy to care for. Clear aligners truly are clear, and even if you are having a face to face discussion with someone else, they will not be able to tell that you have anything on your teeth.

You see…it is possible to enjoy a straight smile without wearing metal brackets and wires. Now you have no more excuses about wanting a straighter smile that is easier to care for. The options really are tailored for adults just like you.

To find out which types of braces are right for you or to learn about how long your treatment would take, schedule your no-fuss orthodontic evaluation today.

Benefits of Clear Alignment-Tray Braces

Posted in Braces

Having straighter teeth means your smile is more beautiful, and easier to care for. Crooked teeth are often prone to cavities and gum disease around them. When dental patients begin looking into orthodontic treatment options, many of them are drawn toward clear braces. We all know that clear braces look better when you’re wearing them (because no one can see them at all), but there are also several other reasons that clear, alignment tray braces are beneficial.

They can be removed for easy oral hygiene.

Nobody likes having to brush and floss around individual brackets. With alignment-tray braces, the tray is removed and you brush and floss your teeth as normal. It’s quicker and more effective. That also means you’ll be able to avoid the dreaded “white circles” on your teeth that many orthodontic patients get when not properly brushing around their braces.

There are no dietary restrictions.

With regular braces, you can’t always eat what you want. Thankfully, the convenience of alignment tray braces means they are removed during all meals, and there are no dietary restrictions. You can eat hard, sticky, or crunchy foods that would regularly interfere with traditional orthodontic brackets. You’ll also never have to worry about food getting stuck in your braces!

You’ll have fewer appointments.

There is no need for frequent adjustments, because treatment is progressed by changing out your alignment trays. That means a few sets of trays can be sent home with you at one time, and you’ll never need uncomfortable appliances or wires to be changed out. Just see your orthodontic provider for regular check-ups every 6-8 weeks, and pick up your new trays.

Invisalign Teen

Posted in Braces

Back in the day, if a teenager needed orthodontic care the only option available was metal braces. While traditional metal braces are very effective at aligning the teeth, many teens felt that they were very unattractive. Almost everyone knows the trying times that the teenage years can bring, and having to wear unattractive metal braces only adds to the difficulty. Thankfully, today there is another option for straightening the teeth. Invisalign for Teens is a clear alternative for helping teens achieve a straight and beautifully confident smile.

Not only do many teens feel self conscious about having to wear metal braces for months, but many of them find that having to have their braces adjusted monthly is an inconvenience to their busy schedules. From school hours, involvement in sports and other extracurricular activities, working, family time, and vacations most teenagers don’t have any extra time in their schedules to work in caring for and maintaining traditional metal braces.

Invisalign is a clear alternative. Invisalign utilizes a modern approach to orthodontic care by using clear aligner trays that gradually shift and straighten the teeth. Unlike metal braces that have wires that need to be adjusted and can cause the mouth to be sore for days, with Invisalign Teen the clear aligners work gradually so that there is no discomfort. As the teeth straighten, new aligners are used until the teeth have worked their way into a beautiful position.

Talk to your dentist or orthodontist about Invisalign Teen vs metal braces to help your teen achieve a beautiful smile. With proper use, Invisalign Teen is a great alternative to help your teen gain confidence.

The Benefits of Invisalign Orthodontic Treatment

Posted in Braces

Invisalign® Orthodontics has revolutionized orthodontic treatment for people all ages and has become a viable alternative to the traditional metal braces, which have been used for generations.  What separates Invisalign® orthodontics from traditional metal orthodontics is that is virtually invisible, because it is made with a clear plastic.  The traditional wires and metal hardware is replaced by a series of ‘aligners”, which fit into the clear plastic aligner trays.  The system is then worn over the top of the teeth, slightly similar to an athletic mouth guard.  Instead of the orthodontist tightening the wires, they “aligners” are replaced every two weeks, until the desired results are achieved.

There are a number of benefits to Invisalign® orthodontics, with the most important one being appearance.  Since they are virtually invisible, most people will never know that the patient receiving treatment is wearing the orthodontics.  Often people of all ages are very self-conscience of the fact that they are wearing orthodontics, so the fact that they are invisible means the person’s self-confidence is not negatively impacted.

This is especially important to adults, who in many cases with wear the orthodontics for a year or more.  Another benefit of Invisalign® orthodontics is that they are extremely comfortable and can easily be worn for 20 or more hours per day, depending upon what the orthodontist recommends.

While Invisalign® is a very effective orthodontic treatment, it may not be a suitable treatment for all patients needing orthodontics to straighten their teeth.  Only a qualified and highly trained orthodontist, who specializes in Invisalign® orthodontics, can make that determination based upon a thorough dental exam.

Invisible Braces Alternatives

Posted in Braces

Invisible braces don’t have to be something that only rich people can afford. As the science behind invisible orthodontics has advanced, so have the options when it comes to selecting the best clear braces for you. There are several different brands of invisible braces including Invisalign and  ClearCorrect invisible braces.

Invisible braces use 3D imaging technology to make its orthodontic treatment as specific and detailed as possible. The 3D imaging allows patients to see what type of movement will be achieved before they even begin their treatment. Tooth movement is predictable, giving you the best results possible when treatment guidelines are followed.

Instead of the wires and bands used for traditional braces, invisible braces use a series of plastic alignment trays to slowly move your teeth into the correct position . These are similar in appearance to a clear retainer or whitening tray. As each set of trays is worn for several days, the teeth are guided into the desired position. Then, a new set of alignment trays is placed in the mouth to progress the movement further. There are no wires, brackets, or adjustments needed at your dentist or orthodontist’s office. Because invisible braces are predictable, you can take a few sets of trays home between each follow-up visit. There are fewer appointments needed, and even the ones that are necessary are shorter than those for people wearing traditional braces.

Enjoy whatever types of food you like, because invisible braces can be removed during each meal. There’s no need to change your oral hygiene routine, because brushing and flossing is performed as normal. Just brush your alignment tray with tap water before putting it back into your mouth.

Are You a Good Invisalign Candidate?

Posted in Braces

Crooked teeth can affect your smile and your confidence level, but there are ways your dentist can help you correct these cosmetic issues. When it comes to straightening mild to moderate tooth unevenness, there are a host of solutions available. For patients who prefer not to wear traditional braces, the Invisalign system is often preferred. Still, not all patients are considered ideal candidates.

Invisalign tooth straightening methods use transparent plastic aligners to smooth out crookedness or unevenness in a row of teeth. Approximately every two weeks, your dentist will replace your existing Invisalign tray with a new one, which will help to gradually shift your teeth into a new, more aesthetically pleasing position.

Who Can Benefit from Invisalign Treatment?

Ideally, prospective Invisalign users will have healthy gum tissue and teeth with mild misalignment issues. Severe crookedness is generally considered a sign that you’ll be a poor candidate for the system. Age is also a factor, as young teenagers’ mouths are still growing and developing. If you’re an adult or an older teenager, though, Invisalign may help to correct your uneven teeth.

Patients with underbites or overbites are not considered ideal candidates for Invisalign invisible braces, as the system will not correct these issues and patients aren’t likely to see much benefit over the course of treatment. These bite problems will require more specific orthodontic treatment.

While these general guidelines can help you to determine whether or not the Invisalign system is right for you, the only person who can make a true and accurate evaluation of their proposed effectiveness on an individual basis is your dentist. If you’re interested in straightening your crooked or uneven teeth with the help of the Invisalign system, make an appointment with your dentist today to set up an appointment for evaluation. You could be on your way to a more even, confident smile in no time!

Advantages of Invisalign Braces

Posted in Braces

Braces are no longer limited to the young. Many adults today are regrettably enduring the look of misaligned teeth perhaps because, when they were children, their parents could not afford orthodontics. Of course, most adults do not want to endure the look of traditional metal braces. Well, you don’t have to. Adults who are still longing for that beautiful smile of straightened teeth can take advantage of new technological advancements in this area. A modern approach to straightening teeth utilizes Invisalign invisible braces.

Your dental professional can create a series of custom made aligners tailored to meet your individual straightening needs. Invisalign braces are invisible plastic trays that are worn over your teeth to gradually shift your teeth into proper alignment. The Invisalign trays are comfortable and gentle, in vast contrast to the attachment of metal brackets or the tightening of wires.

Your dentist or orthodontist will plan out the exact movements of your teeth so that, every few weeks, a new set of aligner trays will be used until your treatment is complete. With this procedure, you will experience little interference in your everyday life and most people won’t even know that you are having your teeth straightened.

As people live longer, more adults are interested in preserving their teeth. Not only do properly aligned teeth look better but they also contribute to better oral hygiene. Teeth that are misaligned create more food buildup and more plaque, which could ultimately result in periodontal and gum disease. Healthy teeth create a great smile and a great smile can open many doors, which is money well spent and more valuable than the temporary discomfort. Your local dental professional can advise you as to the practicality of using Invisalign to straighten your teeth.

How Do Invisalign Braces Work?

Posted in Braces

Technological advances in the world of orthodontics have made the decision to get braces much easier and more attractive for adults. Such an advancement is Invisalign. Invisalign invisible braces are an alignment technique performed gradually, gently and comfortably through the wearing of a series of custom designed plastic trays, tailored just for your individual needs by your dental professional. In addition to crooked or protruding teeth, Invisalign is an effective treatment for individuals with gapped teeth, overbite, underbite, open bite, crossbite and over-crowding.

Of course, the whole process begins with an initial consultation by a dental provider who has had the proper Invisalign training, to evaluate your specific problem areas and whether or not this procedure is right for you. A digital 3-D image will be made of your teeth, from which a precise “map” of the projected movement of your teeth will constitute each step of your treatment plan.

With this same technology, your provider can show you a computerized representation of how your teeth will be expected to move throughout the process. A series of individual aligner trays will be designed based on your treatment plan and, as you progress, you will be given a new set of aligner trays approximately every two weeks. All you have to do is wear them, except when eating, brushing or flossing, about 20 to 22 hours per day.

You will need occasional checkups with your dentist, just to monitor your progress. You can expect the entire treatment to last about a year but, since you can see your teeth, you’ll be encouraged to see the improvement as it develops. Best of all, no one will know that you are having your teeth straightened, except you and your doctor.
