Can Cosmetic Dentistry Improve My Appearance?

In short, yes!  Cosmetic dentistry is a dental specialty that focuses on the appearance of a patient’s teeth and smile.  Often people become self-conscious of the appearance of their teeth or smile, so much that it impacts their self-esteem and confidence, which ultimately impacts their personal life, as well as their professional life.  Advances in cosmetic dentistry have resulted in a vast majority of cosmetic dentistry procedures to be quick, virtually painless and affordable!

Cosmetic dentists have a number of tools and procedures available to improve the appearance of anyone’s teeth or smile.  Broken, chipped or damaged teeth can be repaired with porcelain crowns or porcelain veneers.  Gold or other metal crowns can be replaced with porcelain crowns, which match the color of the patient’s other teeth.

Veneers are also used to close unnaturally large gaps between teeth, as well as to extend the length of teeth that are unnaturally short.  State of the art composite resin fillings now replace metal fillings, which were common in the past   Missing teeth can be replaced with dental implants or bridges, both of which serve as a replacement for the tooth missing.  Stained teeth can be made white again using lasers and other in office teeth whitening technioques.

Anyone that is self conscious about the appearance of their teeth or smile should visit a cosmetic dentist and discuss their concerns.  The dentist will perform an examination and outline a phased plan to quickly correct the appearance of the person’s teeth and smile!

Dental Veneers

Many Johns Creek cosmetic dentists feel that one of the most fulfilling of all dental specialties is cosmetic dentistry, because here the dentist has the opportunity to improve their patient’s smile and the appearance of their teeth, which often leads to the patient feeling better about their appearance.  Often patients have teeth that are severely discolored, misaligned, crooked, unevenly spaced, gapped, chipped or too short.  Dental porcelain veneers can correct all of these conditions and is a very popular and economical cosmetic dentistry procedure.

The first step in the process is for the dentist to perform a complete dental exam and determine if dental veneers are the correct cosmetic dental solution for the patient’s problem.  If the veneers are the right solution the dentist will choose one of two types of veneers available in the marketplace.  The first option is a standard veneer, which requires the dentist to prep the tooth for the veneer. The second option does not require any prep work and the veneers are directly cemented to the tooth.  The one selected will be based upon the dentist’s experience in determining the best option for the patient.  Once the type of veneer to be used is determined, the dentist will match the color of the veneers with the teeth that are not getting veneers.  The goal is to have the colors match as closely as possible and appear to be natural.  Depending upon the type of veneers used, the patient may only need two visits, while in other cases three or more visits may be necessary, due to the prepping of the tooth to receive the veneer.

Once the veneers arrive from the lab, the installation process is painless and quick.  In a matter of a few hours at the dentist office spread out over several visits it is possible to have a brand new smile!
